One of boxing's top pound-for-pound fighters returns on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York City as Terence Crawford defends the WBO welterweight title against mandatory challenger Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

Crawford (35-0, 26 KOs) last fought in April at MSG when he blasted through Amir Khan to win by sixth-round TKO and score his sixth consecutive stoppage victory.

The dominant performance once again led to people inside and outside boxing clamoring for a megafight between Crawford and unified 147-pound champion Errol Spence Jr. Spence went on to defeat Shawn Porter in September to add the WBC belt to IBF strap. After a recent car accident, it is unknown when he will return.

Kavaliauskas

While Kavaliauskas isn't the opponent many want to see Crawford face, the former undisputed junior welterweight champion promises to stay focused on who will be standing across the ring from him this weekend.

“Egidijus Kavaliauskas is a two-time Olympian and I can’t take him lightly,” Crawford said in a press release. “He’s got everything to gain and nothing to lose and that makes him dangerous. I never overlook any opponent, and this will be no exception. I’ll be ready for anything and everything he brings on December 14 when I return to my second home, Madison Square Garden.”

Kavaliauskas (21-0-1, 17 KOs) is a two-time Olympian out of Lithuania. The 31-year-old doesn't come in with a ton of momentum. He's coming off underwhelming and highly controversial majority draw with Ray Robinson back in March. The man known as 'Mean Machine' understands why people were disappointed with his showing against Robinson. But he plans erasing those feelings the public has toward him and shock the world at the 'World's Most Famous Arena'.

“I have prepared my whole boxing career for a fight of this magnitude,” Kavaliauskas said. “Terence Crawford is an excellent fighter, but I fear no man. Nobody has seen the best of the ‘Mean Machine’ yet. I am going to shock a lot of people on December 14, but it won’t be a surprise to me. I earned this title shot. It is my time.”

Can Kavaliauskas pull off the upset and throw a wrench into the plans at 147 pounds, or does Crawford maintain his undefeated record and continue to make his case as the best fighter in all of boxing?
